Agriculture in Wales

South west Wales, especially Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, is the heart of Welsh dairying, helped by mild weather and long grazing seasons. Mid and north Wales are dominated by upland sheep and suckler beef, often on family farms that have been run for generations.

Alongside primary farming, Wales has milk processors, feed mills and machinery dealers serving these livestock areas. Many of those roles call for a good understanding of grassland and stock, whether you work on the farm or advise farmers.

Working and living in rural Wales

Distances between farms and towns can be considerable, so reliable transport makes a real difference to which roles are practical. Some dairy and livestock positions include housing on or near the farm, which can make relocation easier.

Welsh is spoken widely in many farming communities. Most roles don't require it, but it is worth mentioning Welsh language skills in your CV if you have them.
