Dairy is concentrated in the south west, particularly Ayrshire and Dumfries & Galloway, where grass grows well and many herds are large. The east coast, from Aberdeenshire through Angus and into Fife, is known for cereals, potatoes and vegetables, and Perthshire and Angus are home to much of the country's soft fruit.
Further north and west, upland and island farms focus on sheep and suckler cattle, and many estates combine farming with forestry and sporting interests. Tractor driver and machinery work follows the cropping areas, with the busiest spells at drilling, spraying and harvest.
Many Scottish farms are a fair distance from the nearest town, so a driving licence and your own transport are usually essential. On livestock units, particularly dairy, a farm cottage may be offered with the job, and each listing makes clear whether that applies.
Candidates can apply with a Scottish NVQ (SVQ) Level 2 or equivalent, which meets the same standard asked of NVQ holders elsewhere. If you are planning to move to Scotland for a role, give your timescale in your application, as employers appreciate knowing when you could start.
Talent Agri recruits across Scotland, including the Highlands and Islands when employers there are hiring. Scottish roles appear on this page as they become available.
Machinery operators are needed on many arable and mixed farms, especially in the east. Check the list above for machinery roles, or contact the team to register your interest if none are open.
Yes. A Scottish NVQ or SVQ Level 2 is treated as equivalent to an NVQ Level 2 when you apply through Talent Agri.
