Food & farming recruitment

Food Recruitment Agency for Farming, Growing and Food Supply

Talent Agri is a food recruitment agency for businesses where farming meets the food chain: growers, packers, producers and the teams that keep product safe, consistent and sold.

Food and farming is one of the specialisms of Peter Quinn, co-founder of Talent Agri. That matters when the person you need has to understand both a growing operation and the standards your customers audit you against.

The food and farming roles we cover

Our food recruitment work spans the point where primary production becomes a supply chain. On the growing side that means growing managers, glasshouse managers and farm operations assistant managers who run day-to-day production. On the technical side it means product quality assurance technicians and quality assurance specialists who keep sites audit-ready. Commercially, it includes fresh produce sales traders who buy and sell product against tight margins and short shelf lives.

These roles often sit in the same business and depend on each other. A glasshouse manager who understands what QA needs from them, or a trader who knows how a crop is actually grown, is worth a great deal. We look for that understanding as well as the core skills.

  • Growing managers and glasshouse managers
  • Quality assurance technicians and QA specialists
  • Fresh produce sales traders
  • Farm operations managers and assistant managers
  • Technical and compliance roles in food manufacturing and packing

What good quality and technical candidates bring

For quality roles, the detail is in the standards. We check which certification schemes a candidate has worked under, such as BRCGS, how involved they were in audits, whether they hold HACCP and food safety qualifications at the right level, and how they handle a non-conformance or customer complaint. Experience of retailer codes of practice is often the deciding factor for sites supplying supermarkets.

In food manufacturing recruitment more broadly, employers tell us the challenge is finding people who can hold the line on standards while working constructively with production. We ask candidates for real examples of that, rather than relying on a list of qualifications.

  • Certification schemes and audit experience
  • HACCP and food safety training level
  • Traceability, labelling and specification work
  • Supplier and customer technical communication

How we approach a food sector search

  1. 01

Understand the site and its customers

We learn what you grow, pack or produce, who you supply, and which audits and customer standards shape the role.

  2. 02

Define the balance of the role

Is this a hands-on technician, a systems owner or a manager of people? We pin that down so the shortlist reflects what the job actually involves.

  3. 03

    Search across farming and food

We approach candidates from growing operations, packhouses and food businesses, including people who would only consider a move if it was put to them directly.

  4. 04

    Check evidence, not just certificates

Interviews cover real audit, production and trading situations, and we follow up after the start date to make sure the appointment is settling in.

Matching the service to the vacancy

QA technicians, farm operations managers and growing roles usually suit our permanent service, with a fee due only when the appointment is made and 12 weeks of support afterwards. Technical managers, heads of quality and senior commercial roles may justify a retained search with a dedicated consultant.

For entry-level QA and operations posts where active candidates exist, a targeted job advertising campaign is a cost-effective alternative.

Food & farming recruitment questions

Can you recruit QA staff with retailer audit experience?

Yes. We ask candidates which audits and customer standards they have worked under and what their role was in them, so you can see whether they have led audits or supported them.

Do you recruit for food factories as well as farms?

We focus on food businesses connected to agriculture and horticulture, including growers, packers and producers. If your site sits further down the chain, call us and we will tell you honestly whether the role is a good fit for us.

Can a fresh produce trader move from another commodity?

Sometimes. Trading skills transfer, but shelf life, seasonality and grower relationships make fresh produce distinct. We look at how quickly a candidate is likely to adapt and discuss that with you openly.
