About the role
We are recruiting for an experienced Nursery Manager to join a well-established business within the soft fruit sector. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong nursery, propagation, or plant supply experience to take ownership of nursery planning and plant production programmes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating contracted nursery programmes, monitoring plant production against plan, and managing any issues relating to plant quality, shortages, or delays. The role also involves working closely with internal teams and external nursery partners to ensure plant supply meets operational requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate nursery and plant production programmes
- Place official plant orders with contracted nurseries
- Monitor plant availability and report future plant requirements
- Communicate shortages or delays to the production team in a timely manner
- Manage plant claims and plant-related issues
- Support and oversee nursery protocols and standards
- Develop and improve nursery procedures where needed
- Lead plant logistics coordination
- Assist in preparing the annual nursery budget
- Build strong working relationships with nurseries and research centres
- Provide regular reporting and travel to nursery sites as required
Qualifications & experience
- Degree-level or higher qualification in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science, Nursery Management, or a related field
- BASIS Certificate in Crop Protection
- FACTS qualification
- PA1 and PA6 pesticide application certificates
- Full UK driving licence
- First Aid at Work certificate would be an advantage
- IOSH or other Health & Safety qualification would be beneficial
- Any nursery propagation, irrigation, or crop management training would be advantageous
Candidate requirements
All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
