A progressive dairy farm in West Dorset is looking for a capable Herdsperson to join its small, hands-on team.

The herd currently stands at around 450 cows, with plans to grow to 500 by 2027. This is a newly created position within the team, offering a practical dairy person the chance to be involved in the wider running of the unit — not just cows and milking.

Duties will include:

  • Milking and maintaining high parlour standards
  • Cow health, welfare, treatments and observations
  • Calving, youngstock work and general herd routines
  • Supporting fertility work and breeding programmes
  • Grassland and grazing management
  • Feeding, bedding, yard work and general day-to-day farm duties
  • Helping keep the dairy organised, clean and running properly
  • Working closely with the Herd Manager and wider team

The package

  • Up to £15 per hour, depending on experience

  • Choice of 11 days on / 3 days off or 10 days on / 4 days off

  • Modern, well-maintained mobile home provided

  • Opportunity to be part of a growing 450-cow dairy progressing towards 500 cows

Qualifications & experience

  • Previous dairy and milking experience is essential
  • Grassland and grazing knowledge
  • Experience using Uniform
  • AI experience is essential
  • Foot-trimming ability is essential
