Accommodation: 2-3 Bed Traditional Farmhouse
Salary: To be discussed, dependent on experience

The Opportunity

An opportunity for an Assistant Herdsperson to join a modern, high-yielding, high-health dairy enterprise in North Devon.

Working closely with the existing Herd Manager , your main responsibilities will be milking and supporting the daily care of the herd. You will need the practical ability and confidence to cover routine herd duties on the Herdsperson’s days off.

Responsibilities

Carry out milking and maintain high standards of parlour cleanliness and hygiene.
Monitor cow health, condition and welfare, recognising concerns and taking appropriate action within agreed farm routines.
Support daily herd care and keep livestock areas clean and well maintained.
Provide reliable cover for daily herd duties on the Herdsperson’s days off.
Assist with the care and handling of beef youngstock as required.
Undertake foot trimming and AI where suitably experienced.
Communicate clearly with the Herdsperson and wider team to maintain consistent routines.

Qualifications & experience

Previous livestock experience is essential.
Confident with dairy cattle and practical farm work.
Reliable, observant and committed to animal welfare.
Able to work independently when providing day-off cover.
Willing to learn and follow established herd routines.
Foot-trimming and AI experience is essential

Candidate requirements

All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
